Creating An Intentional Christmas with a Gift Tag Wreath

The holiday season can be busy and with that comes tons of activities. But often in the rush of parties and plays we miss out on time spent doing what brings us the most joy with the ones we love.

This Christmas, our family made the choice to not get lost in the rush of activities.  My sister had the inspired idea for us to create what we called Our Intentional Christmas.

To begin, we sat down over dinner one evening and each wrote out one (or more) things we all wanted to do together. A few of our Intentional Ideas were:

  • Lunch with our adopted Grandmother - Ms. Charlotte
  • Additional friends and family we wanted to be sure to spend time with
  • Make and decorate Christmas Cookies
  • Watch a Christmas Movie while enjoying hot chocolate
  • Make Hot Cocoa bombs
  • Go to dinner and a movie all together
  • Make gingerbread houses

We listed others but hopefully, this gives you some ideas for your family too! Having a list of things we knew we wanted to say YES to also helped us know what activities or invitations we might need to say no to.  For any of the activities that needed scheduling in advance, we made arrangements and calendered them so we could look forward to them and it ensures they didn't get overlooked. We also began texting our friends and family to get dates on the calendar to see them!

Once we had our list, my sister and I printed out small tags that we would attach to Wooden Christmas Tags to hang on our family wreath. Then throughout the Christmas season, as we enjoyed doing each of the activities or meeting with friends and family, we would hang them on the wreath.

We loved the idea of using the wooden Christmas tags with printed activities so we could adjust and reuse them year after year.  She used washi tape to adhere the printouts to the tags for an added effect and again so we can easily reuse the tags again.

Seeing the wreath slowly decorated with tags that represented how we were intentionally celebrating the Christmas season was meaningful in more than one way. I found myself walking past the wreath and smiling as I recalled something from one of the activities and felt so much gratitude that we were doing it.  We were really living out the Christmas of our dreams!  We were intentional with what we wanted to do, and who we wanted to see and spend time with and that made the season all the more enjoyable!

Like most areas of our life, we need a vision or else chances are, we end up missing the things that matter most and spend our time in ways we never really meant to spend it. So whatever method you choose to help you create YOUR Intentional Christmas, my hope is that you take action today.  Set aside a few moments to dream and then do something to make that dream a reality this month.
